About Morgellons and Collembola
 Morgellons is the term an English researcher in the 1930's gave to a condition or disease documented by a 15th century  physician that basically mirrors symptoms that so many are reporting today. Thousands of sufferers have been documented and despite this fact, Morgellons is still a medical mystery; there is no Morgellons treatment, much less a Morgellons cure. The majority of individuals reporting symptoms of this unexplained and debilitating condition resided in the following states: California, Texas and Florida. Skin Parasite Symptoms
  This mysterious skin disease has been making its way across the world. It is a parasite-like infestation that can produce a multitude of symptoms from evident skin lesions to a decline in vision. Patients say it feels like they have skin bugs crawling all over them. To make matters even worse, many doctors say the victims are delusional when they claim they have a parasite biting. Skin Parasite FAQ'sWhat is the CDC Doing?
The Centers for Disease Control along with Kaiser Permanente held a national media conference on January 16th, 2008 announcing their epidemiologic investigation on the cause of this disease/illness. Kaiser Permanente was awarded $338,000.00 for the investigation of this disease because of their geographical location; however the study is being designed and led by the CDC; hopefully there will be a Morgellons treatment soon and finally one day a Morgellons cure.
Why Don't My Doctors Believe Me?
The knowledge of Morgellons Disease is extremely new. While the condition has existed for countless years, it has not been formally studied until recently. Our medical society is trained to follow what is seen and taught within their text books and classes. While there have been numerous articles and journals printed that speak of Morgellons Disease, the treatments and diagnoses are still considered theoretical.
What is Delusional Parasitosis?
Quite often individuals suffering from this debilitating condition are misdiagnosed with Delusional Parasitosis. Delusional Parasitosis is a medical diagnosis which means that while you believe that you are infested with parasites, but there is no actual, physical condition to explain it. Basically, it is all in your head. We believe that it is a convenient diagnosis that doctors are giving because they do not know how to treat patients who claim they have a parasite biting.
What are some symptoms of skin parasites?
Some symptoms of skin parasites or Morgellons disease can include but are not limited to fatigue, brain fog or memory loss, mood swings, depression, swelling of joints, visual decline, autoimmune decrease, hair loss, lesions, hard nodules, itching, creepy crawly sensations, organisms biting or moving, sores that do not heal, and even sleep disorders.
Are scabies and springtails the same?
No, they are considered to different kinds of parasites. Springtails use more of a jumping action to get around and scabies move about 2.5cm per minute. You can also see springtails in the right light but scabies mites are microscopic organisms. Springtails are also known to leave fibers on the skin and scabies leave burrows of debris under the skin. These are just some of the differences.
How can I see what is on my skin?
A microscope has to be used when trying to see skin parasites. You can purchase a 30x lighted handheld microscope if you would like to take it with you at all times. If you do not use magnification you should not be able to see the parasites themselves only left over fibers on the skin or black specs in your sheets and on your clothing.
How do you get skin parasites?
It is unknown how skin parasites is transferred but it is speculated that you can transfer them from person to person by close contact such as trying on clothing, sitting in a chair, or even sitting across from an infected person. Normally a person would have to have contact with the infected object for up to ten minutes to give the parasites time to transfer from one place to another.
Why can't I get a diagnosis for skin parasites?
Because the CDC has not yet done enough research on the effects of skin parasites, most doctors diagnose the problems as anxiety, stress, or even delusional parasitosis. Common treatments issued by doctors are those for head lice and scabies but neither of these medications work to relieve symptoms of Morgellons disease.

What are some suggestions on how to treat my home?
It is very important to treat your home or living environment when dealing with skin parasites or Morgellons. We have found the use of a mattress cover is best for your bedding. Your sheets and pillowcases need to be washed or changed daily. The use of a strong disinfectant cleaner can be helpful to treat furniture and counter tops. It is known that drying clothing on high heat for over twenty minutes should kill the parasites. However, you can also use a disinfecting detergent also in the laundry to kill parasites. Vacuuming can also prove to be a big help, however make sure to throw the bag or clean the unit after each use.

Morgellons came into the media limelight in 2002. That was the year that Mary Leitao founded the Morgellons Research Foundation. Her young son had complained of feeling "bugs" on his skin, and Leitao discovered multicolored fibers in a sore on her son's lip. Unable to find any explanation for her son's symptoms, Leitao founded the Foundation to encourage and fund medical research. More people with similar skin symptoms began to register at the Foundation's Web site, and soon the condition was receiving national news coverage. Leitao named the condition Morgellons after a condition described by a 17th-century doctor: he had treated a young boy with "black hairs" coming from a lesion on his skin. Leitao does not claim that this case and what is now known as Morgellons are related, and aims to change the name once more is known about the condition.
Morgellons is distuingished by and most known for its strange skin symptoms. People who believe they have the condition claim to experience a feeling of creeping, itching or crawling under their skin. They also report skin lesions, ranging from small spots to disfiguring marks, from which fibers emerge. These fibers are usually white or clear, but have also been reported in blue, black and red. Some people report finding what they call "fuzz balls" - small masses of fibers - underneath or inside their lesions. There have been some reports of people finding small, hard lumps of material underneath their skin, resembling grains of sand. No one is sure what these fibers or pebble-like objects are made of.
Other symptoms associated with Morgellons include fatigue, joint pain, changes in mood and mental status and memory loss. Not everyone who self-identifies as having the condition experiences these symptoms, and some doctors claim that these symptoms are simply manifestations of other diseases that are being overlooked or misdiagnosed by people who claim to have Morgellons.
Research is ongoing, but officially the disease has not been proven to exist as such. Skeptics believe that the condition is either a misinterpretation of symptoms or a completely psychosomatic phenomenon. It is argued that some people who may indeed have a disease but have been misdiagnosed or undiagnosed have latched onto Morgellons as a definitive cause of their problems. Some skeptical doctors maintain that the condition is a largely mental phenomenon, a form of hypochondria fed by the Internet and media reports. These doctors and researchers claim that the characteristic crawling sensations are most likely a condition known as "delusional parasitosis;" people who believe they have an infection or parasite in their skin may begin to actually experience a crawling sensation, just through the power of suggestion. Skeptics also contend that the fibers probably come from clothing. Morgellons is not an official diagnosis, but people who say they have the disease are adamant that their symptoms are real.
The CDC is currently conducting a study of Morgellons, but has so far not reached any definite conclusions. The Morgellons Research Foundation also offers funding to doctors and scientists willing to research causes of the disease. Research consists of interviews with and case studies of suffers as well as actual physical study of the lesions and fibers associated with the disease. For the time being, the CDC is referring to Morgellons as "unexplained dermopathy."
