Roxy Loves How Sulfinex for Cats is Tea Tree Oil Free!
I'm writing to thank you for Sulfinex for cats. Years ago I had a cat with ringworm and it took weeks to cure and trips to the vet. No complaints here, I was glad it was gone at any price! But when my 7 week old kitten recently came down with a large ringworm patch on her stomach, I wanted to try something faster and milder than the fungicide we'd used before. The Sulfinex cream smelled nice, was not greasy, and "Mystery" didn't even know it was on her. The next day, all the redness was gone. The second day any little scales were gone. Today (five days) her skin is healthy, smooth and has velvety fur growing back in. The product worked wonderfully and the price is great. P.S. Thank you for NOT adding Tea Tree oil to the product. I have actually seen it listed on some other brands of cat products. They do not call Tea Tree oil "cat killer" in Europe for nothing!

About Pet Ringworm

Although most people mistake Ringworm for an infection caused by a type of worm, it is actually caused by a group of fungi called dermatophytes. This common misconception is due to the fact that symptoms of ringworm, or dermatophytosis, usually appear in the shape of a round wormlike patch of infected skin. Unlike human ringworm, the type of ringworm that is found on animals may have many different appearances. The different types of dermatophytes (fungi) may cause different types of symptoms to appear.

The three main types of ringworm are Microsporum, Trychophyton and Epidermophyton. Microsporum Canis is the most common in dogs and cats.

Any mammal can contract ringworm, including but not limited to: human, rabbits, dogs, chinchillas, ferrets, hedgehogs, cattle, horses and show lambs. It is the most common infectious skin disease in cats, especially Persians. It is important to remember that Ringworm is extremely contagious and some animals may be carriers even if they do not show the symptoms.

Ringworm is common throughout the world and highly contagious. It can be easily contracted by direct and indirect skin contact with a dermatophyte spore. Often when the brittle hair breaks off of an infected animal it takes the spores with it. The number one carriers of ringworm are cats. Rodents are the next largest carriers of the disease and they will often pass it on to dogs that dig in their burrows. Boarding kennels, breeding kennels, shared grooming tools, clippers, bedding, hay, scratching posts and other items that the animal comes into contact with are common contaminants. Any item that comes into contact with a contaminated area can potentially spread the disease if it is not properly disinfected between uses.

Spores in the environment can remain infectious for up to two years. After exposure to the spores, the symptoms will occur within 10 to 12 days. Some pets carry the disease and can infect others without showing any symptoms.

Does my pet have ringworm?

Ringworm will first appear as a small pimple-like growth. It will rapidly begin growing into crusty or scaly, red, raised areas that may blister or ooze. The surrounding hair will become brittle, which will allow it to break easily, causing hair loss and bald spots to appear.

Click here to learn What Does Pet Ringworm Look like

As the infection grows, the center of the rash will decrease in redness, this causes the round or ring-like shape. If the ringworm becomes severe enough, many rashes and rings can appear. This will usually occur on Cats, while dogs will usually only have single occurrences. The lesions will usually be seen on the face, ear tips, tail or paws of the animals.

However, in horses, the lesions are commonly seen on the saddle area, eyes, legs and girth. Pet owners more often than not will also end up with the ringworm before or during the treatment of the pet.

The most common symptoms include:

  • Patches of hair loss
  • Matted wool
  • Discoloration
  • Thick, crusty lesions
  • Pustules
  • Thickened, red and weepy skin
  • Hair may come back black
  • May result in scarring
  • Brittle hair that may break
  • Swollen lesions
  • Accumulation of crusty or scaly skin
  • Acne
  • Darkened skin
  • Inflammation or crusting of the nails
  • Reddening usually with hair loss
  • Red raised lesions possible by the mouth
  • Constipation, vomiting
  • Excessive shedding
  • In horses may lead to kicking
  • In rabbits there is no ring just a sore

Pet Ringworm FAQ's

Will regular shampoo work for dogs with ringworm?

Regular dog shampoos do not work for ringworm because they are not anti-fungal. If you do find an anti-fungal dog shampoo, please make sure it is safe for use on your pet.
We do offer our PetsBestRx Pet Wash which is anti-fungal and also works well for mites and staph infections. The PetsBestRx Pet Wash will also help to rejuvenate the skin and relieve the itching from pet ringworm. This is also safe, nontoxic and non-staining. We do also offer the PetsBestRx Sulfinex Cream, PetsBestRx Healing Gel and PetsBestRx Healing and Protection Spray. The PetsBestRx Pet Wash should be used like a regular dogs shampoo. Leave on the skin for three minutes and then rinse thoroughly.

Will my pet's ringworm go away on its own?

Pet ringworm will not go away if left untreated. If you do not treat the ringworm to kill the spores it will continue to spread on the body. Ringworm can be transferred from animal to animal or from animal to human.
The fungus spores can travel in the air and regenerate and remain on your furniture or carpeting waiting to re-infect your pets. The ringworm fungus burrows under the skin and causes a red raised ring or lesion. The ringworm does not always have to be in the circular fashion, but it usually is accompanied by hair loss. You need to treat your pet for ringworm as soon as you start noticing symptoms. The longer the ringworm remains on the skin and the farther it burrows, the longer it will take to treat. It can also cause irreversible damage to the hair follicles.
We do offer a completely safe and nontoxic solution for pet ringworm. The PetsBestRx Sulfinex Cream consists of white sulfur MSM and pine oil. This product will help with the itching, work against the ringworm spores and also rejuvenate the skin. It will also draws the ringworm to the surface of the skin and helps to dry up the spores. The main ingredients in the PetsBestRxPet Wash, PetsBestRx Healing Gel and PetsBestRx Healing and Protection Spray are benzyl dimethol or benzalkonium chloride. These ingredients are known for their anti-fungal properties. They also work well again mange and staph infections in pets.

Why are vet ringworm treatments not working?

Some treatments used by veterinarians work and some do not. It is a luck of the draw. The most common reason that pet ringworm vet treatments do not work is because the owners are not treating the environment.
Ringworm is highly contagious and the spores will be left all over the home while your pet is suffering with this affliction. If you are not treating for ringworm in your home, your pet is become re-infected all over again every day. We do have products that are completely safe, nontoxic and non-staining to treat for pet ringworm as well as your home. These products are proven 98.5% successful through trials and studies.

Ringworm information that may be of interest

Ringworm is poorly named by whoever coined the term, due to the fact that ringworm is a fungus and not a worm. This leaves many people confused. Ringworm makes its home on the hair and skin, and it affects both people and pets. In humans, ringworm forms a ring-shaped, raised red rash, but this appearance is not common in animals. Ringworm resembles a lot of skin ailments on your pets/animals

Dogs and cats are susceptible to three forms of ringworm. Felines are the harborer for the most common form of ringworm in pets. Following them, ringworm  is also carried by rodents and picked up by dogs digging through rodent burrows. The third form is a soil fungus.

It is possible to contract ringworm from your cat. Studies show that in 30 percent to 70 percent of households where the cat has ringworm, at least one person will get it. This could also appear in the form of athlete's foot, which is the same line of fungus as ringworm.

Different Forms of Pet Ringworm

The fungal disease is highly contagious and there are three forms of fungus that are the cause of ringworm.

They are:
Micros Porum Canis
Micros Porum Gypsum
Trichophyton.

The most common is Micros Porum Canis. Long-haired cats are at greater risk for infection and/or maintaining a reservoir of infectious elements. Transmission occurs by direct contact between infected and non-infected pets and individuals. It may be passed from dogs to cats to rabbits to ferrets to owners and vice versa.

Although ringworm is more common with cats, dogs encounter the fungus also.  Note that this is a skin disease and in most cases the ringworm fungus can be killed and off your pet in 3 to 5 days by using our PetsBestRx Ringworm Products.

Note that PetsBestRx offers Benzalkonium Chloride for your environmental sanitizing when treating for ringworm.  PetsBestRx offers two types of disinfectants; one that is ready to use and one that is a concentrate.  The concentrate allows you to mix your formula to your specific needs.  If you need a weak nontoxic formula, it's no problem AND if you need a much stronger formula you have the power to mix that formula!  You can put it in your laundry too!
